Lore & Trivia

The Vibram Hong Kong 50 (now the MSIG Action Asia 50) is a 50km ultra that traverses the mountainous spine of Hong Kong Island and the New Territories. The course follows Hong Kong's ridgeline trails — steep stone steps up jungle-covered peaks, with the South China Sea on one side and the city's skyscraper skyline on the other. Hong Kong has one of the highest densities of trail runners per capita in the world, and the 50K format is the entry point to the city's hyperactive ultra community. The race atmosphere is uniquely Hong Kong: serious competition alongside carnival energy, with aid stations serving noodles and dim sum alongside gels.

  • Dragon's Back ridge was voted the best urban hike in Asia by Time magazine.
  • The course passes within sight of Hong Kong's famous skyline throughout.
  • Despite being just 50km, the 2,800m of climbing makes this feel much longer.
  • Hong Kong's trail running community is one of the most active in Asia.
  • Established in 2013.

Hong Kong 50 — half the distance of HK100 but all the vertical. The city's jungle ridges don't get easier at 50km.
