The Course

A 100-mile route tracing the path of the former Berlin Wall, following the Mauerweg cycle path that encircles what was once West Berlin. Runners pass through former death strips, Cold War checkpoints, and sections where the Wall still stands. The course is almost entirely flat on paved or compacted gravel paths, winding through urban Berlin, suburban forests, and agricultural fields on the city's outskirts. It's a history lesson at 10km/h — every kilometre has a story.

Lore & Trivia

The Mauerweglauf turns one of history's darkest boundaries into an ultramarathon course. The Berlin Wall divided a city for 28 years; now runners traverse its entire 160km perimeter in a single push. The route passes Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate, remnants of the death strip, and memorial crosses for those who died trying to cross. Running it nonstop — through day and night, through the vibrant city centre and the silent outer edges — is both an athletic and emotional experience that few ultras can match.

  • The course follows the exact path of the Berlin Wall that divided the city from 1961-1989.
  • One of the flattest 100-mile races in the world with only 300m of elevation gain.
  • The race commemorates the fall of the Wall and the reunification of Berlin.

You run the path of the Wall. Every checkpoint is a former death strip. History is the pacer you didn't ask for.
